Folklore and Ethnology Topics and Concepts in Canadian Universities
What do Folklore and Ethnology Students Learn? Many cultural studies, anthropology and literature departments offer courses in folklore and ethnology, but there are few universities in Canada that offer specific degrees in folklore. These tend to be interdisciplinary programs that combine courses in folklore with those from closely related departments such as English (or the relevant language of study), anthropology, history, art history, music or sociology. Students of folklore conduct field research in their work of recording and preserving folk culture; thus they develop skills in researching, in working with the public, and in writing and communicating their findings to others.
