What is Folklore and Ethnology?
Folklore is the popular culture of a people passed on through mostly oral traditions its tales and legends, its customs and beliefs, its music, dance, drama, vernacular architecture, material culture, food, home medicine and folk wisdom. In other words, it encompasses the non-institutionalized aspects of culture, the culture, for want of a better term, of the common people. About Folklore and Ethnology
Folklore is most closely related to cultural studies programs (of which there are many) and anthropology, but it also shares topics with music, drama, sociology, and the literature of the region or culture studied. Museum studies and arts administration are common paths of future study for folklore majors.
