What is Rural Planning and Development?

Rural planning and development is a relatively new field that can be approached from several directions: either from an interdisciplinary rural development or rural studies perspective or a specialized area of study such as planning, environmental science, nursing or aboriginal issues. In general, however, rural development is a field that strives to improve the social, political and economic welfare of the people and the environment that sustains them.

About Rural Planning and Development

Students interested in urban and regional planning should give serious thought to the various possibilities for specialization inherent in the discipline. They should also study the most closely related fields, including community development and planning, rural planning and development, architecture, public administration, immigration or multicultural studies, urban and economic geography, and political science.
