Health Informatics Research Areas and Disciplines

Researchers are developing public policies that support health, by exploring health from an interdisciplinary social science perspective to address current health care challenges. Current research focuses on the organization and management of health care and approaches to public policy. Researchers are addressing a number of areas including integrated approaches to the delivery of care, the influence of leadership and organizational culture on healthcare errors and quality of care, and workplace violence.

In the area of health policy, research is analyzing the political and economic factors that influence health care. They are exploring health and social justice issues at the local, national and international levels in both developed and developing nations. This includes issues such as power, influence, and political ideology. Other researchers are using computer systems to create more user-friendly databases for medical, health, and biological information. For example, researchers are working to collate and standardize all health information so that patient information is readily available at any physician office. These people are working with those in the computer and information security areas to ensure these databases, while accessible to those authorized, are also private and safe.
