What is Internal Medicine?
Internal medicine is a medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis, management, and non-surgical treatment of diseases. A specialist in internal medicine is sometimes called an internist. Internists generally restrict their field of specialization to a particular organ system (eg. a nephrologist specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases of the kidney). Because surgery is not used in treatment, internists often have a wide knowledge in various other medical therapies and drug administration.
