Employment Resources and Professions Available to Manufacturing Engineering Graduates

Many industrially oriented companies will employ manufacturing engineers, such as car and aircraft manufacturers (eg. robotics and automation), computer equipment companies (eg. quality control), chemical companies (process design), medical equipment companies, and telecommunications companies. They work in product design and development, process design and control, operations analysis and management, and engineering sales and marketing.

Manufacturing engineers can also work for various government agencies, or go into business for themselves as independent consultants and contractors. Manufacturing engineers can also work for management consultants and financial institutions.

Research is another area that manufacturing engineers can get employment in. They can work in academia, teaching mechanical and manufacturing engineering at the post-secondary level, while at the same time performing research. This is usually in collaboration with private industry, the medical or biotechnology fields, or government.

People with a degree in manufacturing engineering can also use this degree as a stepping-stone for future education in law, medicine, or business. This type of degree can also be used to acquire the P.Eng designation, which would allow manufacturing engineers to be legally responsible for the blueprints and of objects to be designed and processes to be followed, and allows them greater employment opportunities.
