Military and Strategic Studies Topics and Concepts in Canadian Universities
What do Military and Strategic Studies Students Learn? Some military and strategic studies programs encompass several disciplines, including history, political science, geography and economics, while others are primarily historical in nature. Students not only study the causes and effects of war in the past, but investigate modern phenomena such as peacekeeping, the role of intelligence-gathering, disarmament, insurgency and counterinsurgency, terrorism, and other issues affecting international security. Some programs include a component of military training, or include visits to battlefields and fieldwork with the Canadian Armed Forces. Beyond the specific subject matter, students would expect to learn and apply critical thinking skills, report writing and research techniques, and would gain a broader understanding of human interaction.
