What is Military and Strategic Studies?Military and Strategic Studies programs are offered by only a few universities in Canada, the most well-known of these being of course the Royal Military College. Most such programs take an interdisciplinary approach, educating students about the role of the military in society and world affairs in the past, present and future.
What do Military and Strategic Studies students learn?Some military and strategic studies programs encompass several disciplines, including history, political science, geography and economics, while others are primarily historical in nature. Students not only study the causes and effects of war in the past, but investigate modern phenomena such as peacekeeping, the role of intelligence-gathering, disarmament, insurgency and counterinsurgency, terrorism, and other issues affecting international security. Some programs include a component of military training, or include visits to battlefields and fieldwork with the Canadian Armed Forces.
