Admission to a the graduate-level program at the University of Waterloo requires a previous honors undergraduate degree in a related discipline (eg. engineering, engineering physics, nuclear engineering) with a minimum B average. Work experience in a related field is as asset.

A master's degree with at least a B+ standing in either engineering or physical science is required for admission to McMaster's PhD program. It is possible to gain admission directly from an undergraduate degree, provided the student has an exceptional average and an aptitude for independent research.
