Employment Resources and Professions Available to Robotics Graduates

Those with a background in robotics can work in essentially any field that uses automated equipment. For example, in the agricultural industry, roboticists can work to create machines that plant and/or harvest crops more efficiently. In the automotive world, roboticists are used to design the machinery that assembles vehicles, and in fact there is also research going on to automate some aspects of driving (driverless cars etc).

Electronics firms will also hire roboticists to aid in the design and development of new electronic equipment for computers such as microchips. The aerospace industry also extensively employs roboticists to help in the automation of various aircraft and spacecraft systems. Government military, and also military consulting contractors, will also use roboticists to design robotic systems for devices such as submarines, warplanes, and smartbombs.

The medical industry also employs roboticists to help automate medical devices. They are also being used to create robots to do various types of surgeries such as remote surgeries and also those that require very accurate movements.

Many manufacturing companies will hire roboticists to help automate outdated machinery. Such people often work on a consulting basis and transition from one project to another.

Graduates can also work in research and development (both in academia and also for private firms), technical sales, project management, planning, and technical writing. A background in robotics can also be used for entry to various engineering programs such as mechatronics, electrical engineering, or software engineering.
