Theatre Production Programs, Courses, Schools and Degrees in Alberta Universities
What is Theatre Production?Technical theatre programs, also known as theatre production programs, train students in a variety of skills relating to theatre management and production. (N.B.: For the purposes of this site, theatrical design is considered a separate program, but some institutions offer only a more general degree that incorporates design courses in a broader-based theatre degree.)
What do Theatre Production students learn? As mentioned above, some institutions consider the “technical” theatre program to include design, and thus theatrical design may be a large component of a more broadly focused degree program. Courses deal with the principles and techniques of stage management, as well as aspects of technical production such as the management of time, money, personnel, space and equipment. Scheduling, budgets, contracts, promotion and staffing are all prime concerns, as is the practical side of costume and set construction, makeup, effects, props, sound and lighting for theatre (and sometimes film and television). In addition, a well-rounded theatre degree usually includes courses in the liberal arts and humanities.More information about Theatre Production
