Vascular Surgery Research Areas and Disciplines

Research in vascular surgery focuses on ways to improve surgical techniques and improve success rates (eg. immediate surgery vs. ultrasound surveillance for aneurysms). Various reconstruction techniques of the aorta are being studied at many universities and hospitals. Also, there are studies in various aspects of amputation: improving techniques, controlling bleeding, and post-amputation therapy.

Several noninvasive investigations are also ongoing, such as developing new drugs to combat certain vascular diseases and eliminate the need for surgery, and the development of stents and angioplasty balloons.
