Biography - Claude Lajeunesse Ph.D.

Dr. Claude Lajeunesse is President of Concordia University, a modern comprehensive university whose highest values are diversity, accessibility and excellence.

A native of Quebec City, Dr. Lajeunesse obtained his Ph.D. and MSc in Nuclear Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York, after a BSc in Engineering Physics at l’École polytechnique in Montréal.

Dr. Lajeunesse has directed funding processes in the areas of innovation and advanced scientific research in Montreal and in Ottawa. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. Immediately before coming to Concordia, Dr. Lajeunesse spent a decade as President of Ryerson University in Toronto, an institution with similar historical values and traditions to those of Concordia.

He has assumed a succession of leadership roles and is currently a member of the boards of TD Meloche Monnex and Atomic Energy of Canada Limited. The Canadian Academy of Engineering named him to its Board in 1999, which he served as President in 2002-2003. He remains a member of l’Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, and is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering.

From his earliest professional days, Dr. Lajeunesse made time for commitments to academic excellence, professional standards, lifelong learning and the well-being of the communities where he has lived and worked.
