The Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training trains people in a career as trainer for outdoor activities. The COLT was established in 1977 at Strathcona Park Lodge. The course is ideal for outdoor lovers who wish to develop their love of outdoors as more than their hobby.
The Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training aims to cultivate leadership skills and stamina in lovers of outdoors sports. The training inculcates self-sufficiency in students in wilderness as well as urban settings. Teamwork is also emphasized, as is leading a group. Courses offered at the Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training are recognized by Recreational Canoeing Association of Training and Association of Canadian Sea Kayak Guides.
Programs at the Canadian Outdoor Leadership Training include water, land and wilderness training. You learn canoeing, survival techniques, nutrition, kayaking, climbing, mountaineering, camping, glacier exploration etc. All the programs are meant to teach self-reliance to students.
In order to be eligible for this program, participants need to be at least 19. A high school degree is necessary. The applicant must be in good health and abide by the code of conduct as laid down in the program. The courses are recognized under Private Career Colleges Act.
