Northumberland Driving Institute, placed in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada, trains students to drive and operate all sorts of commercial vehicles and heavy equipment. They have many different courses of varied durations. The available courses are: Tractor Trailer course available in 6 week and 12 week duration and Heavy Equipment operator course.
The Heavy Equipment operator course involves training on excavator, dozer, loader or backhoe. The course is extensive and teaches the student, not only the methods of operating the equipment, but also the complete engine layout, its maintenance and basic repair.
The Tractor Trailer course includes all the above, as also the knowledge of various types of goods including the ones which are dangerous in nature; keeping log books and map keeping; National safety code etc. The extensive course includes satellite training, life skills and a chance to be recruited. They are also taught the job of hauling loaded Tandem and Tridem Trailers. Some courses require the learner to have class I permit.
