Criminology Programs, Courses and Degrees in British Columbia

  • Criminology - Capilano College
    Capilano College does not offer a Criminology program. However, the College does offer the opportunity to earn transfer credits towards a Criminology program at Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia, University of Northern British Columbia, or University of Victoria via the 3-credit Criminology 101 course. Students can also take Philosophy 140 and 141 at the College, which 'transfer to SFU as criminology courses.'

  • Criminology - College of New Caledonia
    Humber College's 2-semester Law Firm Profile - Office Administration certificate program prepares students for a career in law office administration. The Program will equip learners with 'theoretical knowledge of legal practice and procedures in different areas of law' as well as with the practical abilities to use 'specialized, legal software programs such as Teraview, PCLaw, and Quicklaw.'

  • Youth Justice Program - Douglas College
    Douglas College 2-year Diploma in Legal Studies, 'the only one of its kind in British Columbia,' is designed 'for students who have a general interest in the law as an area of study in the liberal arts.' The Program allows learners to take a broad array 'of law and legal system' and 'will also expose students 'to legal research skills, legal remedies and the basic principles of legal reasoning.'

  • Diploma in Legal Studies - Douglas College
    Douglas College's 2-year Diploma in Criminology prepares students for various careers and/or further education in Criminology, Criminal Justice or related fields. Through a broad, liberal arts-based program, students will study 'the central issues in Criminology and the structures and processes found in the Canadian justice system,' and 'learn to appreciate the complex problems encountered in the criminal justice field.'

  • Diploma in Criminology - Douglas College
    Douglas College's Criminal Justice Certificate is primarily geared towards students 'who want to take a series of courses in the field of criminal justice in order to increase their knowledge of the structures and processes in the Canadian justice system.' Most of the Program's courses are transferable and thus learners 'can continue their studies at a university.'

  • Bachelor of Arts (Criminology Major) - Kwantlen University College
    Kwantlen University College's 4-year Bachelor of Arts (Criminology Major) will develop students' competencies, knowledge and skills in Criminology and Criminal Justice, enabling them 'to meet the continuing needs of traditional criminal justice agencies and to adapt to emerging opportunities in other sectors' and/or further their education in the field.

    Kwantlen University College's 4-year Bachelor of Arts - Double Minor (Criminology) 'allows students to customize their programs to reflect more directly their personal interests and facilitates their preparation for future career and educational goals.'

  • Associate of Arts Degree (Criminology) - Kwantlen University College
    Kwantlen University College's 2-year, 60-credit Associate of Arts Degree in Criminology will have students examine various aspects of crime and criminal and deviant behaviour and the ways in which the criminal justice system attempts to control, deal with, and prevent crime. Graduates will be ready for various entry-level work and/or further studies in Criminology and related fields.

  • Diploma In Criminology - Kwantlen University College
    Kwantlen University College's Diploma in Criminology prepares students for a career and/or further education in Criminology, Criminal Justice or related fields. The Program is interdisciplinary in its approach to the study of Criminology and is focussed 'around a central core of method and theory that provides a foundation for more advanced study of crime and social responses.'

  • Certificate In Criminology - Kwantlen University College
    Kwantlen University College's 30-credit Certificate in Criminology program prepares students for careers and/or further studies in the criminal justice field or related areas. The Program provides learners with the opportunity to study crime and the criminal justice system from a wide array of topics. Moreover, students will 'have the option of entering the diploma program' in Criminology 'without having to make up additional course work.'

  • Criminology (Bachelor of Arts/University Degree Completion) - Malaspina University-College
    Malaspina University-College's 4-year Criminology (Bachelor of Arts/University Degree Completion) equips students with the 'conceptual, critical and applied skills to work in fields where a legal/justice focus is beneficial.' More specifically, students will develop competency in 'criminal law, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and case-law decisions made by the court' and in 'the three main components of the criminal justice system-police, courts and corrections-that form an organized response to crime.'

Students will be required to be in residence for at least 25 percent of the Program.

  • Associate of Arts Degree - Criminology specialization - Northwest Community College
    Northwest Community College's Associate of Arts Degree in Criminology prepares students for a career and/or further educationin the Criminology field or related areas. The Program offers students the opportunity to study crime 'from the point of view of each discipline' that constitutes Criminology and to 'study the characteristics of criminals and deviant behaviour and how the law and the courts attempt to prevent and control crime.'

  • General Studies (Criminology courses) - University College of the Fraser Valley
    The University College of the Fraser Valley's General Studies (Criminology courses) option provides an opportunity for interested students not enrolled in a Criminology or Criminal Justice program 'to take criminology courses.' This option may be of particular interest to learners 'who are exploring various educational and career options.'
