Studying Equine Science in Canada

Students begin with the fundamentals of horse biology, nutrition, and behavior, and then progress to practical skills. This includes the care and training of horses, horsemanship, breeding management, business and event management, and coaching. Practical skills such as foaling and managing the newborn foal and various riding practices are taught in the field.

Specialist classroom and laboratory courses include equine biotechnology and artificial breeding techniques, advanced equine anatomy and physiology, and genetics.

As well, students acquire certain adjunct certifications during the course of their studies. This includes occupational health and safety, WHMIT, work safety, and basic equine medicines.
