What is Geology and Geological Sciences?

At a basic level, Geology and the Geological Sciences (e.g. geomorphology, geophysics, geomechanics, geobiology) study the formation of rocks and minerals and the forces which shape and change them. More generally, they also concern themselves with the Earth as a dynamic system, and the ways in which human populations interact with the physical environment.

What do Geology and Geological Sciences students learn?

Geology and geophysics programs are can be combined with numerous other related disciplines depending on the institution and the needs of the individual student. The courses may branch into areas such as geochemistry, plate tectonics, hydrogeology (the study of water systems), sedimentology, environmental and engineering science, and paleontology. It is also possible to pursue joint degrees or double major programs in conjunction with disciplines such as geography, chemistry, environmental science or business.
