What is Geology and Geological Sciences?

Geology is the science that involves the study of the Earth and the Earth's origin, composition, structure and history. Rocks, crystals, mountains, earthquakes, volcanoes, rivers, glaciers, landslides, floods, and many other subjects fall into this broad field of science.

Some schools consider geology to be synonymous with Earth Sciences or Geosciences, despite the fact that earth sciences is technically a broader term that includes geology. Other schools, however, use Earth Sciences in the context of Planetary Sciences, and those cases are covered in the Planetary Sciences article.

About Geology and Geological Sciences

Geology is an earth science, and has many subfields such as paleontology, mineralogy, hydrology, geophysics, and seismology. It is a subfield of earth sciences but is often used synonymously.
