Beyond the specific subject matter, students would expect to learn how to collect and present of data to support an argument, and would gain a broader understanding of human interaction throughout time. Many students choose a particular area of the world or time period in which to focus their studies (e.g. Latin American history, renaissance history), or a particular thematic focus (e.g. women’s history, music history, labour history), although it is not necessary to restrict oneself to a single focus the way one tends to in a graduate degree program.
