What do Horticulture and Horticultural Students Learn? Horticulture students learn a wide range of skills and concepts, including methods of plant propagation, landscape design, plant identification, greenhouse management, entomology, plant pathology, nursery crop production and environmental stress physiology. It gives students experience in the latest technologies used in the horticultural industry such as computer assisted design software, and often provides basic instruction in business, accounting and law so that students may eventually own their own businesses. There is usually a large “hands-on” component, with students working directly in horticultural industries or in the field.
