What is Music Theory?Music theory programs are devoted to the study of the foundations of music production and composition.
What do Music Theory students learn?Music students majoring in theory focus on the articulation of aspects of musical structure; at the undergraduate level theory and history (or theory and composition) may be offered as one program. They may take courses in orchestration, analysis, criticism, and the business of music; to round out their degrees, they take electives in the liberal arts and sciences, or in other fine arts.
