Theatre Design Programs, Courses, Schools and Degrees in British Columbia Universities
What is Theatre Design?Theatre design is a program that seeks to give students professional training in the techniques and art of design specifically for the theatre and other performing arts.
What do Theatre Design students learn?Theatre design programs vary depending on the institution, but generally students are trained in several aspects of theatrical design, including sets, lighting and sound, makeup and prosthetics, and costumes. Students also take related liberal arts and fine arts courses in theatrical literature, aesthetics and history, as well as practical courses in technical drawing, three-dimensional model and set construction, the mathematics of light and colour, patternmaking, sewing, and scenic painting. Some students choose to pursue theatrical design studies in conjunction with another theatrical discipline, such as directing, production, or acting. There is usually a large practical component to the program, where students are encouraged to take part in campus and community theatrical productions.More information about Theatre Design
