Profile of Career College/Trade School
The Alberta Distance Learning Centre is specially designed to offer distance learning courses for students from grades 1-12. Founded in 1923, the institute is based in the province of Alberta and caters to a wide spectrum of students, both from the international community and from across the country.
The institute was developed in order to provide schooling for those students who wish to pursue studies at their own pace. Classes are offered on a flexible basis to allow students to adapt their schooling to their lifestyle. However, prospective students must have strong time management skills in order to develop effective schedules through which they may complete their course. They must also be familiar with using the computer and sending and receiving assignments online. Students must also be resourceful and know how to use research materials and are encouraged to approach their instructors with any questions they may have regarding assignments or course work. Self-discipline is also necessary to ensure that assignments are completed on time.
Free placement exercises are offered at the Alberta Distance Learning Centre in order to determine which courses are best suited for which student. Virtual classrooms, team teaching and video conferencing are some of the methods used for teaching. Specialized courses are available for elementary school students, junior high and senior high students. A Christian program, French Immersion course, Vista Virtual program and Francophone course program are also offered.
