The Acadia Centre for Small Business & Entrepreneurship was founded in 1988 as a part of the Atlantic Canada Institute, a consortium of university business development centers. Based in Nova Scotia, the institute was renamed the Acadia Centre for Small Business & Entrepreneurship in 2006.
