Maritime Environmental Training Institute is registered as a private career college under the Private Career College Act. It offers training in workplace safety, environmental health and safety to individuals as well as corporate clients. A range of programs are offered from basic introductory programs as well as refresher programs. It has partnered with L.I.U.N.A., United States Environmental Protection Agency and Environment Canada to develop its programs to ensure that students get quality training in the latest techniques.
The environmental safety program offered at Maritime Environmental Training Institute focuses primarily on environment safety and environmental remediation. Students are trained to assess the environment and take action. The students also receive a HAZMAT supervisor certification that qualifies them to work in hazardous work sites. The program also focuses on industrial and work site safety issues, training students to follow government regulations and to ensure safety of workers at the worksite. The students also receive Environmental / Construction Safety Supervisor certification that has been registered with the Nova Scotia Department of education.
The institution offers programs that train students to ensure safety of workers in confined spaces, while forklifting, using acids, handling petroleum products etc. They are also given training in first aid, and transportation of dangerous goods, how to take proper precautions while trenching and excavating, hoisting and rigging etc.
Successful graduates find employment in various fields as safety officers in environmental organizations, government agencies, police and fire department, oil and gas concerns among many others.
