The British Columbia Society of Training for Health and Employment Opportunities, popularly known as THEO BC, was founded in 1976. It is a nonprofit private career college that offers a variety of job-related courses to people with permanent disabilities and mental health issues. These courses are accredited by the PCTIA of BC and are conducted with the help of the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). The courses at THEO BC are specially designed for folks of all ages who have psychiatric, physical, sensory, and other disabilities. The staff at THEO BC checks out a student’s interests, abilities, and skills to admit them to a suitable course. Some of the programs at THEO BC include courses in auto body repair, counseling, customer service, therapeutic recreation, cashiering, radiography, and office administration. THEO BC offers both community-based training and in-house training at its 12 campuses in British Columbia located at Kamloops, Kelowna, Langley, Merritt, New Westminster, Penticton, Port Coquitlam, Prince George, Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver and Vernon. The college has more than 70 trained instructors and counselors. THEO BC has partnerships with companies, government and the community to provide training and placements to its students. Graduates of THEO BC have got volunteer positions, part-time jobs or full-time paid employment as customer service clerks, janitors, machine operators, health care workers, data entry clerks, cooks, sales executives, or assembly line workers.
