What is Agricultural and Agriculture?

Agriculture is a professional program that teaches the science and practice of cultivating the soil, producing crops and raising livestock in a sustainable and environmentally responsible manner.

What do Agricultural and Agriculture students learn?

Agriculture students learn about both the science and business side of modern farming. They take courses in crop management, horticulture, animal science, environmental impact, agricultural economics, soil conservation and biotechnology. Students may choose to give their studies an international focus by studying ways to improve the agricultural situations of developing countries.
Another option for students is agronomy, which is the study of plants, soils and their environment. Students may also choose to focus on agro ecology, which is geared more toward developing environmentally friendly methods of agricultural production (for example, creating new types of pesticides and herbicides). Not surprisingly, this program is more science-oriented, emphasizing courses in chemistry and the biological and environmental sciences. All agricultural programs have a strong practical component, often involving work experience in the agrifood industry and on farms during the summer.
