What is Anatomy?

Anatomy is the study of the morphology, internal structure, and design of living things. Medically, it can be broken into gross anatomy (using unaided vision, the study of macroscopic body parts), and microscopic anatomy (using microscopes, the study of cells and tissues). Anatomy, along with physiology and biochemistry, are complementary basic medical sciences that are often taught together in the first year of medical school. All medical doctors, especially surgeons, are required to have a thorough working knowledge of human anatomy.
