Design Programs, Courses, Schools and Degrees in Ontario Universities
What is Design?Design (sometimes known as graphic design or applied design) is a visual art program that teaches the principles and practices behind the design of objects, as well as digital and print media.
What do Design students learn?Design students pursue courses in the history, influence, theory and practice of design, from basic principles to the production of finished creations. There are two general areas of specialization, graphic (image) and three-dimensional (object) design, though some institutions allow students to work in both areas. Because designers are often expected to fulfill many roles in their careers, they may study the design of typography, public spaces, “soft” coverings for consumer items, websites, interactive systems, packaging, books and a host of other elements of the built environment. Students learn to use computer applications such as CAD programs and digital imaging technology and employ them as valuable tools in their work. They also learn to consider the social, economic and environmental implications and influences of their work.More information about Design
