Forest and Forestry Programs, Courses, Schools and Degrees in British Columbia Universities

What is Forest and Forestry?

Forestry programs seek to convey and further good principles of forest management, and to study the impact of human activity on forest systems. They are often included under the broader umbrella of renewable resource, environmental science or agriculture programs.

What do Forest and Forestry students learn?

Forestry students learn the skills, techniques and theory necessary to equip them for professional careers in forestry management. They consider the social, biological, economic, environmental and quantitative aspects of the forest resource, and apply the principles acquired to successful conservation and harvesting practices. Related programs allow students to specialize in forest engineering or forest operations (which focus more on the business end of forestry), or provide the opportunity to concentrate on a particular scientific subdiscipline within the program (such as wildlife management or soil chemistry). Most institutions today offer students a chance to enhance their professional development through field and/or co-operative work.
